Description:
Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible vintage Sosaku (creative) Japanese Kokeshi doll hand-crafted and signed by the noted artisan Gyokujin.
Unlike standard cylindrical kokeshi, this piece features a rare, dynamic sculptural design. It depicts a samurai drummer from the legendary historical tale of the Akō Rōshi (The 47 Rōnin). The figure is posed mid-action, leaning against a traditional Japanese drum wrapped in a decorative woven cord, symbolizing the historic signal drum used during the raid.
The original wooden display base features the artist's handwritten signature (玉仁作 / Gyokujin saku) on top, and the authentic regional stamp (赤穂 / Akō) on the front edge confirming its thematic origin.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition with beautiful natural wood grain and patina. Minor signs of age appropriate for a vintage piece. Please view the high-resolution photos carefully to assess cosmetics before bidding.
