Monsieur,

C’est pour être bien vrai qu’il faut

que je vous écrive, pour m’assurer si vous êtes mort ou

vivant; mais quand vous seriez mort tout-à-fait, je vous

sommes, au nom de St. Ign. Xavier, dont vous faite la neuvaine

(dans l’autre monde), de venir promptement dans celui-ci

pour me donner le compte détaillé de toutes les expéditions

d’actes que vous m’avez livrés, expédiés et envoyés l’année

dernière; (environ 18 à 19 ententes) et vous vous rappellerez de placer

£1–10–3 au bas des comptes que vous avez tenus.

Seriez-vous encore de ce bas monde, je vous exhorte

à chasser la mort, laquelle viendra à votre porte, de toutes vos

forces, afin de rester avec nous ici bas, et d’accomplir qui vous

concerne.

Écrivez et bonnes valeurs, et croyez moi

I am writing to you to find out whether you are dead or alive.

But even if you were completely dead, I summon you, in the name of

St. Ignatius of Loyola, with whom you are making your novena (in the

other world), to return promptly to this one and give me the detailed

account of all the documents you prepared, issued, and sent to me last

year (about 18 or 19 of them). And remember to place the amount of

£1–10–3 at the bottom of the accounts you kept.

If you are still in this world, I urge you to drive away death — which

will come knocking at your door — with all your strength, so that you

may remain here with us and complete what concerns you.
