UNITED STATES TPO CANCEL ? 1906 2/6 reddish lilac bearing a very good strike of the RARE London and Holyhead / TPO / UNITED STATES MAIL / AU 13 / 04 CDS cancel. This was used for mail departing by ship from Liverpool to the US carried by the Cunard Company. This arrangement started in 1894 but the mail missed the existing ship arrangements calling at Queenstown and was changed to Royal Mail trains sorting carriage from London Euston to Holyhead on Saturdays at 4.10pm to ensure carriage of the mail to the USA.

We use UK condition abbreviations.

U/M (un-mounted mint) is Mint Never Hinged or Never Hinged Mint.
M/M (mounted mint) is Hinged Mint.
