H. Macaskill, sequestration
Dear Sir,
We have to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated the 6th instant with the enclosures therein mentioned, consisting of (1) Policy of Insurance on the Life of Dugald MacLachlan, (2) Assignation of the same in favour of H. Macaskill, (3) Account Current between MacLachlan and Macaskill, and the receipts for premiums.
We have made application to the Standard Insurance for payment. Until we see the Assignation in favour of Mr. Macaskill we cannot say whether it is cut down by sequestration within sixty days from the date of sequestration. If the Assignation was granted and acted on, or payment of price, it would not, in our opinion, be a security for a prior debt in the sense of the Statutes, so we shall see whether the Insurance Company has any objection.
We remain,
Dear Sir,
Your most obedient Servants,
Lockhart, Stewart & whitehead
