Fine 1853 entire from LONDON to BOSTON, sent on the Cunard LIverpool to Boston packet, RMS Niagara. Sent from Maclean Mann & Co to Mackay & Coolidge.

Joseph Coolidge, a Boston merchant, was distantly related to future US president Calvin; he was also the grandson-in-law of Thomas Jefferson. He made his fortune in Canton, China and was closely tied to the Scottish firm Jardine & Mathiesen which dominated the sales of opium into China in the Opium Wars era. This letter though concerns shipments of East India rubber.
