1884 cover Manchester to Tarnagulla. Franked with SG194 6d dull green. Some fugitive ink fade clearly but a scarce stamp on cover let alone to a small Aussie destination.

Recipient David Renshaw was a miner from Lancashire - probably lured the gold rush. He was registered to work the goldfields in 1880. Seems like he did well as he ended up opening a successful group of shops including the Manchester House Stores on Commercial Road and later Renshaw’s Victoria House and the London Stores. Renshaw was clearly a key figure in the growth of the town in the 1880s. This cover was sent two years before Tarnagulla got its own post office.

CV for cover bearing SG194 6d is £380 (stonehams retail is a more realistic £140)
