1870 part entire LONDON to CALCUTTA franked at the 1/1 rate for routing via MARSEILLE and SUEZ, with a pair of SG109 6d mauve (pl 9) and an SG43 1d (pl 120). Less common franking combination.

Strong postal markings front and back.

Interesting contents - last page only but packed with detail on commodity market (indigo, coffee, cotton and wool) fluctuations, floods in Tirhoot and Chuprah, and industrial strife in the cotton mills in France and Germany and their impact on Manchester rivals.

Sent from Alexander & Sons merchant bankers to Dunlop & Begg, Calcutta market agents, who were best known for their involvement in the indigo, jute and tea trade.

Founded by David Begg, a Scottish doctor turned Raj business mogul.

Raggedy edge on one side where opened but this is only apparent when unfolded and doesn’t detract much from overall condition and appeal IMHO.

Similar items were fetching £180 and more in Corniphila auctions last year.
