Here’s entire from 1860 that places Lancashire at the heart of the translatlantic trade boom in the 19th century. Involving two companies that remained going concerns until the 1930s. VALPARAISO to SADDLEWORTH via PANAMA

From GRAHAM ROWE & CO a Liverpool merchant house that ventured into South America in the 1820s, first to Peru and then in 1841 to VALPARAISO, Chile whence this letter was sent. They started in nitrates and chemicals and then expanded into textiles, which is the subject of this letter.

The recipient is JE & GF Buckley who were ‘wool carders’ and spinners, who some time after 1846 acquired Linfitts Mill outside SADDLEWORTH in Lancashire. They obviously rode the Manchester centred textiles boom and here in 1860 they were exporting woollen goods to Chile.
