1855 entire sent EDINBURGH to INVERARAY from James Dalgliesh to James Robertson informing the latter of feu duties (land rent) paid by a list of tenants. Franked with SG17 1d (perf 16) on blued paper
Interesting insight into the feudal system of land ownership in Scotland. Inveraray was the seat of the Duke of Argyll, head of Clan Campbell. Note all the Campbells on the list of tenants. Dalgleish was doubtless a lawyer or banker and Robertson an estate manager/factor for the Duke responsible for making sure the rent was paid among other things.
